Can Google Home announce notifications? (self.Blind)
submitted by rkingett
What I mean by the title is, I know Alexa can't announce stuff automatically but I was curious if Google home can do this? Since I have a stutter I have been using the echo by switching NVDA to SAPI 5 and triggering Alexa then having NVDA read whatever, since Rodger is no more...

But I'd like to know if Google can be used as a audio notifications hub? Thoughts?

Also, any better sounding voices for SAPI 5 and windows 10? Alexa does not understand Daniel all that well.

No, not yet. But Google has promised this feature in a future release, sometime this summer apparently.

Good! Is there like a Google Home version 2 coming out? Or you think it would be safe to buy a Google Home? I like my Alexa, but I realized how often I used Roger for one stop audio notifications.

I suspect it would be safe to buy a Google Home. I seem to remember that at some point, you had said something about wishing you could type in commands to Alexa, rather than speak them? Or am I thinking of someone else? Anyway, if it was you I'm thinking of, you might also like knowing that google launched a Google Assistant app. Once you have a Google Home, assuming you log your Google Assistant app on IOS into the same Google Account, you can type commands into the app on your phone, rather than speak them. And the commands typed into your phone can still control lights, use IFTTT, or any of the other stuff your Google Home could do by voice.

Edit: Someone here says you can use the Google Assistant app on IOS even if you don't have a Google Home. So maybe download it and give it a try before buying a Google Home? Can't verify if that's true or not though.

Yep, you don't need a Home device to use Assistant. I use it pretty regularly on my Android phone, espec in the car.
