MovieReading app transforms cinema experience for the vision-impaired (abc.net.au)

I read through this article twice, and still don't hear the name of the app in question. Which one of them are they talking about? The only one that does this so far in the US is Disney movies anywhere, and currently it is only available for Pixar films.

You're right, they don't seem to mention it in the body of the text. It's in the title, it is literally just called MovieReading (one word, capital M, capital R).

I would love to see this implemented in the U.S. I would also love something similar down the line from Netflix, who already carries AD on their original titles. My idea would be a way to listen to the audio description track separately on a phone while watching the movie or show on a TV so as not to distract sighted viewers with the narration. Believe me, Netflix and chill is a lot more distracting with AD playing in the background.

Apologies if someone has posted about this recently, I don't recall anything.

It's an app that uses your smartphones microphone to pick up where the movie is at, then play an audio description track to the user. I'm not sure how widespread audio description is in other parts of the world, but Australia is very behind. So I can see it being very good for people going to the movies here. It also eases the burden on cinemas and transfers the use of audio description to the individual. I consider that a positive because it reduces the complexities of operating a cinema (i.e. encourages business activity) and empowers the individual.
