Any Jaws friendly e-mail software? (self.Blind)
submitted by The-Giant-Toad
Hi, my Dad's just got a new computer (finally!) but he has a hard time getting Jaws to work on Outlook or Thunderbird. He used to use Windows Live Mail 2009 and that worked great for him but we can't find any working downloads for that. What e-mail client do you use?

If it helps he's after a standalone program if possible which can receive e-mails to more than one e-mail address.

Thanks in advance!

I just use the gmail web interface, myself. I'm on multiple computers regularly, so don't want to set up an email program multiple times.

If he's on Windows 10, I've heard really good things about the built-in mail app being pretty accessible these days.

He's on Windows 7 so we'll have a look at gmail, thank you :)

You should really consider upgrading to Windows 10. Narrator is better. There are useful access features like audio ducking (Windows will make sure the screen reader voice is always louder than anything else the computer is playing), a decent mail app, less lag in places like the start menu, etc. Plus, no security updates for Windows 7 anymore.

Yeah those are good points. His birthday's today too, I might be able to convince him if money's the issue. Thanks for the advice!

Because he uses a screen reader, he can upgrade to Windows 10 for free:

I'm not a JAWS user but know many who do use outlook.

With NVDA (the screen reader I use) outlook works pretty well once you get used to the layout. Same goes with thunderbird although I've heard it doesn't play as well with JAWS.
P.S. I should addd that I'm relatively tech savvy compared to the layman.
