Has anyone attempted gene therapy? (self.Blind)
submitted by Namrakk
For those whose low vision is caused by a genetic defect, have you been able to enroll in a gene therapy program? Although there are no FDA approved gene therapies for vision (yet), have you been able to receive gene therapy, how did you navigate the process, and was it successful?

There seems to be little discussion on the topic

I have been applying to EVERY clinical trial for it in my area, but I never meet the age requirements. I have late onset Stargardt disease.

Good luck finding info on this. I have a genetic condition, but the particular causal gene is not the one being targeted by all the gene therapies. When my eyes started getting very bad I tried to find out how well the therapies worked. All you ever find is newspapers talking about miracle cures and medical articles professing uncertainty. I heard about pushes being made towards FDA approval, but I can't tell you more than that. I have not actually tried to find something about it in a while though.

I agree that it is not being discussed much. Especially not in public forums.
