Has anyone negotiated with their state service to provide Aira? (self.Blind)
submitted by Prefect316
I've just learned about Aira and it sounds like something that would really be helpful to me. It's quite steep price, though, and I'm thinking of approaching my Department of Rehabilitation counselor about footing the bill for it. Has anyone done this successfully, or have counselors pushed back after noting the price? I'm in California, if that helps. Any testimonies are super appreciated.

I could see some companies thinking about using it as an accommodation instead of hiring a reader. Same goes for states that hire readers for students in certain situations. Basically, if AIRA can do something cheaper than the alternative, then it becomes a viable option.

As cool as it is, I would not say that Aira is essential. It is a great suplement, but I don't think it would really be right to ask the state for it. I know this wasn't what you were looking for, just throwing my two cents in.
If you do end up getting Aira, check in and let us know how it goes. It seems really neat.

My advice would be to make the case for how aria will help you with your career and indépendance goals, since that's the justification your counselor will need to make.
