Gift ideas? (self.Blind)

X post from AmazonEcho:
Hi all! I want to get my boyfriend an Alexa-enabled device for Christmas but I'm not sure what would be best given the speakers he already has. He's a Bose guy and has a wired receiver and speakers (including rear channels) for his TV/living room setup. He also already has Mini SoundLink and a SoundTouch 10. He is almost legally blind and does not have an iPhone, so I think Alexa would be really useful to him. It would be nice if he could somehow use an Alexa device to have full house integrated sound, but not sure that is possible yet. I'm debating between the new Echo and the Dot, but open to other options. Would love to hear your feedback!

I think amazon echo is a great idea. My cousin uses it and I haven't heard her complain about it at all. This Christmas, I am getting her this $1. I heard that this $1 glasses can help her recognize who's around and can read for her. Since she's completely blind I think this will be a great gift for her.

I have the dot and it works well. I can access my spotify music through it as well as my local music that I've uploaded to Amazon music. While i like Alexa, she's not very smart ;) I just ordered the google home mini as it appears to be able to do more and is on sale this weekend for $29. I'm hoping to get it and Alexa talking and see where that goes.

If he were a Sonos guy, then he could use an echo to control full house-wide sound. Similarly, denon has some amps that can be controlled by Alexa. However, unfortunately, there's no way to do that with the stuff he has now.

As for what model of echo to get: I might go with a dot. Because they have a headphone jack that he could use to connect his existing equipment to the dot. That's the closest he's going to get to full control of his audio with an echo. I don't believe the large echo has a headphone jack, so he would be forced to use its internal speaker, and couldn't connect it to anything else.
