BrailleNote books for young adult reader? (self.Blind)
submitted by redjedi182
Hey community. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask and if not please forgive me. My girlfriend is a one on one aide for a school district and working with a visually impaired student. He has a device where books can be loaded up for him to read called a BrailleNote. He has read all the Harry Potters and is looking for more to read. He apparently has quite the thirst for literature. Unfortunately the faculty member who should be keeping up on this is severely slacking. Is there site where we could download these books and place it on his reader for him for free? Any programs he is eligible for?
Any help would be appreciated, sounds like this kids has a great mind.
Thanks

Hello! He can download books from Bookshare. They have tons of books in .brf format (braille) that can be loaded onto the BrailleNote. Depending on which model it is, it can be done directly through USB or through an SD card. If you want more info you can PM me.

You can download brf or Braille files from tsbvi.edu. Also state libraries have access to books in brf (Texas does, I believe it is connected to a national data base You can get a the Bible in Braille for free ( a lot of books, lots of space).

According to this Wiki page...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrailleNote#Software_and_supported_formats

...this device takes text files in English and can convert them to Level 2 Braille, plus some other formats that probably won't help you. You can get text files from public domain sites like Gutenberg or Archive.org, but you can also covert ebooks in different formats like EPUB or mobi to text with programs like Calibre. You can PM me if you need help along those lines.
