I was declared legally blind in May 2017 after a series of unfortunate events nearly killed me. Since I worked in public safety in a position that required driving and good visual acuity, I had to resign. I was approved for SSDI and am now receiving benefits. TBH after almost 22 years of working full time (also got my BA and MA while employed), a little break was nice, but I’m looking forward to what comes next. I’m considering going back to college for alternative certification as a high school English teacher if the SSA Ticket to Work program would pay for it. My other option would be to look for an adjunct instructors position at a college teaching courses in public safety (my MA is in Emergency and Disaster Management). Are there any visually impaired educators in the house? How has your impairment affected your teaching style? Has anyone used the a Ticket to Work program to fund a graduate degree? Thanks in advance!
TL;DR. I’m a legally blind individual looking for advice from visually impaired educators. I’m also looking for anyone’s advice in using the Ticket to Work program to pay for a graduate degree.
