This has been going on since 2015 or so. The same promises have been made repeatedly, and broken repeatedly. If all you need is text chat, as I do, there are some third party plugins for various apps and services that will make the text portion of chat accessible to you. However, using any third party client is against the discord terms of service, and you will be banned if you get caught. So I won't link or name them. At this point, though, I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing that will change anything is a court case. If Discord keeps growing as fast as it is now, this should be viable in three or four years.
