ZoomText 11: Screen Reading Not Working (self.Blind)

Hello! I am relatively new to ZoomText. I have used it primarily for the screen enlargement, but some larger documents need to be read now. I am trying to figure out how this appreader and textreader work. I am having no success and have been spending hours to try figuring it out.
What I am doing: Open a Word 2016 .doc with text. ZoomText is opened. I ctrl, caps lock, left click. Then, I am prompted with "app view reader does not work with this program - switching to speak it reader."
I cannot figure out how to navigate that either.
On the internet, (Firefox because Chrome was freezing my laptop) I get the same deal. I assume I am doing something wrong, but I cannot figure out what.
Does anyone know a troubleshooting tip?
