I need two participants for my senior thesis. participants must use screen readers as their primary form of web accessibility. (self.Blind)
submitted by senior_thesis_
Hello! I made a post here about a week ago about my senior thesis research.

I attend a small university in New Mexico and I am looking for *two* people to participate in my senior thesis research on web accessibility for screen reader users.

The whole process will take between 30 minutes to 1 hour total. It consists of you completing a specific task on custom made websites, and then a followup interview with me.

Anyone who is interested in participating can send me a private message here on Reddit and I will be sure to reply as soon as I can.

If you have any questions about your participation, I am more than happy to answer them. I sincerely look forward to everyone's replies! Unfortunately, since this is an undergraduate thesis and my time is severely limited, I can't work with everyone in a formal capacity... I only have the time and resources to work with two more people to even out the different groups.

So, if you are someone who uses a screen reader to navigate the web or use your computer, and you are interested in participating in my research, please don't hesitate to contact me!

1. You give no indication of the topic, IRB approval, etc.
2. You give no indication what participants would get out of it.

So… glwt.

Sorry!

The topic for my thesis is studying the differences in experiences for blind users and sighted users with regards to web navigation.

As for the IRB, I’m not going to post that on reddit because it has my personal information on it. But I am happy to share the relevant documents with people who are seriously interested in participating.

As for what participants get out of it, I am unable to offer financial compensation, as the research is self funded right now... but I hope that some people are willing to give less than an hour of their time to help further research in the fields of technical communication, web design, and accessibility studies.

I also plan on sharing the results of my thesis when it’s complete at the end of May.

I’ve already had a few people from reddit participate and their participation has been quick, fun, and informative. I don’t know what else to say. I’m just a senior in college trying to finish his thesis.

So you have said then that you have IRB approval. Could we have an institution name and IRB file number? That is certainly is not personal information but does meet at least part of the transparency requirements.

Undergraduates aren't given IRB file numbers if our project is small enough, but the institution is $1. The file number exists somewhere but I don't have it personally. I have the approval email from the board.

**Edit:** Additionally, the "risk" associated with participation was listed both by myself and the board to be "minimal risk associated with day to day life". All personal information is anonymized before being analyzed and I won't keep records of correspondences with participants.

I'm still looking! I will edit the post when I have found participants! My schedule is very flexible so feel free to reply or send me a message!
