Research for Creating an App for blind and vision limited users (self.Blind)
submitted 5.345002475565844y ago by n_sinclair
Hi everyone,

I'm an industrial design student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and I'm working on a project with some friends for our class in Human Factors. The aim of our project is to design a smartphone based application to aid users with limited or no vision to perform a task. The task at hand is to help these users enter an address and navigate/guide them to the destination.

We have done some preliminary research on existing apps that focus on helping visually impaired people with this task, but I wanted to reach out to the blind/visually impaired community to see if anyone has had direct experience with these types of apps and is willing to talk about ways to improve them (or to just discuss the experiences/difficulties one may have being visually impaired on campus in general).

Thank you so much in advance for helping!

Are you talking about something like BlindSquare? I am curious why you are doing something that has already been done?

This kind of app exists already,, what would make your app stand out? The only thing I can think of, and at the moment this is impossible as far as I know, would be an app that tels you where you need to cross to keep going on your gerney.
