Helping Eye Apps (self.Blind)
submitted 5.327239293981481y ago by Pyrooster
I've been looking at a lot of the available phone apps like Be My Eyes or Microsoft Seeing AI that specifically help visually impaired or blind people with sight-assistance and identifying everyday items. I was just curious about a few things regarding these kinds of apps, if anyone's ever used them.

How often would apps like these actually be used, and what issues or situations would you use them on? Like is it for a lot of common, every-day situations or occasionally? And are there any issues that are common with seeing-aid apps? Like does using a camera to identify things have frequent inconsistencies or other problems? And if apps like this aren't really effective, are there more common apps that ARE used to help with sight-assistance?

I don't use seeing AI and BeMyEyes that much but when I do, they're amazing. Seeing AI has an amazing short text mode and BeMyEyes is awesome for when you need help with something.

What kind of stuff do you usually use it for?

Reading what's on everything. Instructions, computer screens, bottles of drink or cans, pakets of snacks. anything that has writing on it.

I use Be My Eyes. I use it 3-4 times a week. I have not had any problems with it.
