Virtual Reality for the blind - concepts and ideas (self.Blind)
submitted by DrN00bzLab
I recently read an article about using haptic gloves and having a blind individual use the gloves to view a virtual representation of sculptured artworks.

$1

I found this very interesting but it got me thinking perhaps we can make it more immersive for the visually impaired by utilizing a tongue board electrode array or tongue display unit (TDU). TDU's have been used in the past to help the blind navigate ones environment. Perhaps a TDU could be used in conjunction with 360 degree headphones &  haptic gloves to create full fledged VR experiences for the blind.

Just wanted to share my thoughts and experiences with Virtual Reality. Would love to get a project like this off the ground however TDU's appear to be hard to come by. Anyone that has any experience with TDU's I would love to discuss further.

That sounds really really interesting. Especially in a controled environment. I do like vr stuff. It could help with tours or something like that if the person is able to walked around this controlled environment.
