Could You Answer Some Questions About Accessibility Testing for Websites, Software, and Apps? (self.Blind)
submitted by BlindlyMadeVideos
Hello Reddit,

I am blind, and I am interested in learning about your experiences with accessibility testing of websites, software, and apps. I am currently looking for a job, and I thought I might be able to make some money from accessibility testing in the meantime. Also, I would be using a screen reader for the testing. For those with experience, I have a few questions.

1. Is there a decent amount of demand for this type of testing?
2. Where do you find companies that are willing to have you test their accessibility?
3. Do you get paid for your testing?
4. If so, about how much do you get paid per project?
5. If you get paid, have you been able to make a decent amount of income from accessibility testing?

Thank you for any feedback.

Web accessibility has been growing a lot recently, in part due to the US Department of Justice pursuing violations of $1.

That being said, I don't think the market for human testers is very big. A lot of companies are selling automated testing products. I can't speak for the process those companies are using to develop the systems or their testing process.

Many organizations are starting to hire people specifically to keep them compliant with regulations. If an organization accepts federal funding, they need to be compliant, so you see a lot of higher education jobs for web accessibility coordinators or something similar. So if you want, instead of testing for accessibility, you can develop for it. This would definitely involve a lot of testing, but you also need to know how to find the solution.
