The story is about a race of small, magical individuals called KIRINS who are invisible to the human race. One day, an adventurous KIRIN named Till becomes visible and is seen by a human named Eric. They become fast friends and the young KIRIN lad is brought to Eric's home in human society. Till quickly discovers that not all humans are friendly when one day he is captured, imprisoned and forced to use his magical abilities to make his captors rich. It is up to Eric and a band of brave KIRINs to rescue Till and maybe teach this greedy human a lesson or two.

What stands out about this story to me is the imagination and sense of wonder that the author conjures up when describing the lifestyles of the KIRIN; how their magic works and their relationship to the natural world. To me, the story and tone are similar in spirit to 'Fern Gully' and 'The Dark Crystal' and it's chuck full of magic and adventure. I had a blast bringing these character voices to life.
