Hiding controls for YouTube using VoiceOver (self.Blind)

I usually google these issues but the results are all about producing voice overs for videos and youtube videos about turning off voiceover. When using voiceover on a iPhone, can you hide the controls while watching videos? The only way to do it seems to require disabling VoiceOver.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there is away. I think those button stay on the screen so that you can access them with voiceover. I have not found a solution to this problem myself, but something I do is keep voiceover said as my accessibility shortcut. That way I can turn voiceover on and off with three quick clicks of the home button. Not the solution you were looking for, but maybe it will be helpful.
