I haven't used Audacity too much, but I recently started using Reaper for video editing. However, Reaper is mainly an audio editor; therefore, you could try to use it in place of Audacity. You can download the OSARA extension, which makes it more accessible when using NVDA. There is a 60 day free trial, and the non-commercial license is something like $60.
