Looking for a big button remote that controls three devices. (self.Blind)
submitted by larrygbishop
Hi,

I have a customer who is legally blind but can see certain shapes/things. She is having issues with three regular remotes controlling a Spectrum cable box, Onyka surround sound and a SONY TV. I am looking for a remote that can control all three. Power button for TV, volume buttons for surround sound and channel buttons for Spectrum box. And all she has to do is press those buttons. I hope something is out there that can do that. Any suggestion?

Thanks...

Can she use a cellphone? How about a cell with infrared?

No I don't think so - because she had hard time looking at stuff on computer screen. Maybe a tablet with IR would work.

Cell phones accessibility options, such as a screen reader.
Also, remote control apps can be set up so there's only a few, big buttons.

Some even have voice recognition.

I'll look into it. Thanks.

Can you build something for her? Should only take a small ATMEL microcontroller and a few 3D printed buttons ..,

Well I found two big button remote. One from eBay for $10 just to turn on TV and change input and another GE brand that controls spectrum box channel changes and onkya surround sound volume. Don't need to hit any buttons to switch between the devices. I think it's a success as she had 3 remotes with thousands of buttons.
