send to braille incorrectly formatting us braille (self.Blind)
submitted by stormsong19
I am using the free aph tool sendToBraille to convert text files into braille for use with my orbit.

I have the language set to us grade 2 braille, and things are being contracted, however, most of the oxclusively us braille contractions are not. The word to is always written out, rather than the dots 235, no space, and the next word as I would expect. Similarly with with, and, of etc. Those are contracted, that is you'll see the of contraction, but us braille is supposed to omit the space between things like of the and the for the etc.

I downloaded the latest version of liblouis and replaced the files and tables of the older version, but this didn't fix the issue.

Those translation errors sound like a bug, because those are changes that are in UEB, so the Orbit translation tables are buggy. I'd report it, though the bug may be deliberate. They're trying to deprecate US grade 2 because they think their fancy new system is more efficient, but it just takes up more space electronically and otherwise, and doesn't seem to give us any more useful information.

This is not a ueb/usb debate. There are a number of reasons that ueb is more efficient at conveying information clearly, but it also is slightly less efficient purely space wise. Its a trade off that I see why people would prefer either, depending on their constraints.

Thanks for the account. Could just be the program. I didn’t know this program existed. I have been using Kurzeil to convert everything. I had someone else use duxburry at one point.
