The 1st video game to include a screen Reader for the blind(self.Blind)
submitted by tj_the_blind_gamer
. Most of the time playing Call of Duty with cited competition, recently I found this video demonstrating be 1st ever screen reader in a Triple A studio game. The division 2 private Beta as just the beginning for accessibility this year https://youtu.be/1q5iiK5ebu8 Fool accessibility options are becoming more prevalent, red dead redemption 2 as a full accessibility menu along with the division 2 Beta. Spider man on play station 4 as well as God of War are also members of the accessible games community With the addition of all these features I have decided to do a full presentation at my state convention of the national federation of the blind of Utah. This will be happening in April. I was rather disappointed with the national convention last year, there was A single seminardedicated to accessibility in the gaming industry. With the xbox featuring narrator support they playstation 4 featuring text to speech, not to mention the adaptive controller, and how many blind/visually impaired players there are in the world who put themselves out there to show what game can be played. I hope this starts getting more and more attention to where developers start listening to the blind and visually impaired community of players. We may be small but we are still here and want to play.

It's a great time to be alive. We still have a long way to go making games fully accessible, but small features like this are nice to see.
If you're interested, a few fans and myself started a project transcribing and voicing major scenes in recent video games. It also includes visual descriptions of characters, environments, enemies, etc. It's a long process, and we've only created content for God of War so far, but you can check it out if you like. www.transcribinggames.sightlesskombat.com

There’s an interesting YouTube channel with someone playing games and describing as they go. Link is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0liuqhnIvfLbMeL-g3THoA

I don’t understand how a blind person would be able to play these games, even if a screen reader was reading the menus and such. I’m talking about totally blind people here not people with low vision.

If you're meaning 1st person shooters, here is a video explaining exactly how I play without seeing at all https://youtu.be/TEbri7LIMDU

Do you think an older blind person like me can learn how to play These games? I never learned when I was younger because they hadn’t the technology available.
estj3172 points4y ago
I don’t see why not if you are willing to learn and such go for it!

Very possible, all you really need these days to play a game without vision is a decent headset or sound system. Which are not expensive at all,
