Yeah, looks like you are. Hey just be glad you got ssi and are blind, otherwise it’s a bit harder to get it honestly. Vip means visually impaired person. So yes. If you are going to go blind and legally so your vision is impaired. I know it’s a little hard to accept but it’s true. Learn to adapt get a cane at some point and learn how to use it. Learn what a screen reader is and use it, get use to the speech. Start to learn braille and train your fingres.

Yeah I think this could be a matter of me just not accepting this. its not 100% that I will go fully blind but my dr said to expect my vision to progressively worsen with time and when I asked him if Ill go blind, he said possibly more around with im older. I guess I was more concerned at the time of my diagnosis that I could of had MS because he thought I had that and sent me to another dr to get checked out and at the time that was pretty hard to hear. I guess now its the time to accept my vision is not great and will get worse.

thank you for the message.

Give me a message on here maybe I’ll give you my number.

I understand where you are coming from though. It’s a hard process but to know this doesn’t mean anything and that you can be an entirely successful person, be your own still, have fun, have a good life, not need to be confinde to being a blind person may help.

I don’t act blind, most people I hang out with blind is the last word they think. Normal person. Just anyone else is pretty much their thoughts.

I think the notion of being crippled and limited does absolutely not have to be true!

I would be glad to help and happy to model what a blind person can’t and can do.

Look I’ll put it to you this way. I know because my personality I can come off as r/iamverysmart even if I don’t mean it. I think it comes off more genuinely when you get to know me. But I am not trying to brag here. I am just trying to give you an example.

I am blind, but fairly big part of the community. I go to a regular school, study one of the hardest humanities and one of the hardest majors out there, I am poli-sci. Read all the books. Participate in my community as a campaign volunteer, volunteer at my church, I greet people, I go places, travel like anyone else by trains and buses everywhere. Have a lot of life in me. I know many people in my community and very large city. Socialite if you want to call me.. I can get around there on my own. I don’t have family drive me, or really have no need to, I use it as a convenient thing but I absolutely don’t need it. I plan to travel on my own to the east coast this summer to NY NJ and dc. I have been to new cities and am very proficient in traveling them, more proficient then some sighted people even, apparently. I do housework, and can live on my own. I lived on my own for three years in san Francisco. I don’t only because of money concerns and practicality sakes. Cleaning is a bit more of a challenge right now and it’s not due to blindness I honestly think I need some better allergy medications or to find out what’s really going on. I keep getting dust and stuff in to my system. But anyway. You see where I seem to not live a very much normal life? Yeah, you can do it too, may take effort training, and/or will to do it but it’s possible. You don’t have to do as much as I do but yeah.

Welcome. I have optic nerve problems too but mine have been under-developed since birth. Visual impairment isn't a case of on or off. it's very individual. Different countries and cities have different criteria for what is considered as Visual Impairment. I would think the simplest way to know if you are effectively VI or not would be to see an optician or other eye care professional. Hope this helps.

thank you very much for the response, the last time I saw my eye care doctor he gave me the diagnosis and told me my vision issues are expected to get worse over time, and that he would expect around 50 years old Ill be fully blind if ever. He never used the term VI I dont believe, he did talk about me having blind spots after doing a visual field test. My insurance wont cover me seeing him until 2 years from now about :/

I'm really sorry about that. I'm in the UK so our health system is completely different.
If a doctor has talked to you about what's to come and that you'll eventually go blind then it definitely sounds like the label fits.
You need to think about preparing for further sight loss: learning how to do things with little or no sight. Enjoy it for as long as you have it, but find ways of coping without it in advance. Make contact with state and local organisations as these can put you in touch with other services you might need.
If you haven't already, please read through the contents of the sidebar. There maybe applicable resources there. good luck!
