Pay local visually impaired people to be your tourist guide. (self.Blind)
submitted by batmanthewinner1
Imagine you could book a local to have the best experience during your travels.

There are $1. However I feel like the handicapped community is not being served by this.

Would you be interested to pay a local blind person for his/her service to be your tourist guide and give you the best travel experience given that you share the same handicap? (payment will increase the quality and reliability of this service)

On the other side you could also be a local tourist guide for visually impaired people and get paid to give them a good experience.

I would appreciate you feedback in my $1 or as a comment!

Being VI, I wouldn't necessarily choose a blind or VI tour guide over a sighted one, not because blind people don't have experience or knowledge about the environments around them, but because a sighted tour guide will be able to see more. Is it ableism? Not really. As far as I know, blind people aren't some niche that people have been missing out on.

I am going to be sort of insensitive here I guess I realize this but it’s my opinion.

I wouldn’t mind doing it but I would not ask for another blind person to give me a tour unless this blind person was super independent and capable.

I do benefit from the knowledge of other VI people when it comes to access, though. Where to eat, with accessible menus. Which theatres have best rates on tickets or better views. Cinemas with decent audio-description. Which train stations work best for assistance. Just a few examples.
