Doing make up. (self.Blind)
submitted by Masslove360
I'm visually impaired due to Keratoconus. It only happens 4 years ago suddenly and before then I had poor eyesight but managed well with glasses. I have a corneal transplant. I'm on daily eye drops and my eyes get watery. Ive recently been trying to get into make up again. I've got poor coordination and my fine and gross motor skills aren't great. Couple that with the visual impairment and it's difficult. Things are very blurry most of the time which makes using a mirror difficult. I struggle to apply things correctly like lipstick and eyeshadow. Basically, does anybody have any tips? For now I take a lot of time and use extra light to help but I'm not sure what else to do. I see YouTubers like Molly Burke, who are blind bit still have amazing make up and I'd just like to be able to feel pretty again sometimes.

Thank you

You might consider using a video magnifier. There are some that have adjustable cameras for distance viewing, such as $1. The cost will be higher than other solutions, as much as $2,000-$3,000 dollars, but the level of magnification is high. I use video magnifiers for work and at home, for a wide range of activities, from reading paper documents, to reading whiteboards, to dissembling mechanical keyboard switches. They are fantastic tools. If you decide to go this route, I recommend working with your doctor to try several models that could potentially meet your needs. There are so many on the market, and each one provides specific features and functionality, sometimes for a general audience, and sometimes for specific market segments.

I use $1 cctv for eye makeup and I just hope for the best when doing lipstick or use my phone.

Magnifying mirrors with built in lighting? You know like the ones you get at nice hotels?

To add to the vouching for this, my Keratoconic mom uses a magnifying mirror to put in her Boston Ocular contacts.

That's one of the first things I thought of. I think I'm going to look into that. Thanks very much for the suggestion
