I have lupus and have taken prenisone for YEARS. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet. The main side effect most people worry about is how it affects your bones. Eat lots of calcium rich foods and get a bone density test periodically.

If you use FB, let me know if you'd like me to PM you the link to a Uveitis support group, where everyone can relate to you.
Also, steroids aren't the only treatment for Uveitis anymore, lots of things have been discovered and developed in the last 10 years, with immunesuppressant medications etc.

Thank you! And i am actually already apart of that group

I have Uveitis, and once I couldn’t handle the side effects of oral steroids anymore, started doing the steroid injections into the eyes, as well as steroid capsule implants, and then the side effects don’t attack entire body.

I’ve taken prednisone for other reasons and had no issues but I have uveitis and have taken Lotemax to clear it up. I think my face got puffy but it didn’t last long.
Altogether I have RP, CME, blepharitis, iridocyclitis, uveitis, and pars planitis. The lotemax has always helped clear u iridocyclitis, uveitis and pars planitis.

Hi. I am taking Prednizone life long as an immune suppressant for my kidney transplant. I had to take high doses at the beginning, and I am now at a lower dose. It is the job of the drug manufacturer and your medical team to make you aware of “potential” side effects. Similar to you, the medications scared me almost as much as my transplant. There are things to help manage the side effects.
Watching your sodium intake can help with the fluid retention.
Meal prep and proportioned snacks can help with not over eating. This will help with the weight gain caused by an increased appetite.
Creating a code word for you and your family/friends to use if the medication causes anger outbursts can help manage the joyful mood swings.
I am just a patient. I am not a doctor. Everyone is different. You might want to ask your medical team for other strategies. I hope that this helps. Sending prayers for a smooth treatment.

The internet is full of worst case scenarios. Don't sweat it, everything you mentioned is reversible and I'm sure with time you could manage any side effects you might, but probably won't, have. :)

Best of luck with this. Saving vision long term is most likely worth some short term side effects. Do the research and make your decision. I wish you the best.

I have Uveitis and have been on a myriad of medicines for it. Over the past 16 years I’ve been on high doses of prednisone more than not. Side effects suck, and I do get them, but the benefits outweigh the negatives. My best advice is to start researching the steroid injection. My doctor doesn’t want me to stay on prednisone for long periods of time as it does effect the bones and that could lead to other issues down the line. So he recommended I try the Ozurdex injection. Best decision I’ve made in a while. Best of luck, and just know that not everyone gets all the nasty side effects from prednisone.

When it comes to side effects, they are basically listing every malady felt by the people who where in the trial, whether it was caused by the treatment or not. You could pessimistically expect to experience maybe one of the side effects, but probably not all.

I had to take a stupid high dose of Prednisone for a while to get rid of my non stop vertigo (that was a fun time /s).
I was a bit hungrier while on it and pretty crabby when I started weaning off of it, but other than that I was fine.
