Need advice (self.Blind)
submitted by Wes765
Hi

To start, I'm 27, I am blind, and I have CP. Yay for two strikes LOL

My girlfriend of 4 years broke up with me, because she likes someone else. She also said the CP has something to do with it, among other things.

I guess I'm just looking for advice on how to meet new people, and possibly make friends, then have something turn into a relationship?

Just as a side note, I'm pretty independent. I take Ubers everywhere, I have a job, and can get around pretty easily. I have braces, a crutch, and a white cane.

For the sighted people possibly here, this is me! :-)

Yo! Blind person in the exact same boat as you (minus the crutch and cp).

Get out there. fail. Get out there. Fail. Get out there, meet someone awesome and hopefully make a new contact. Treasure the people who actually give a shit about talking to you because these are the smart ones who actually care about you and not your disability.

Internet dating is a hit and miss, I prefer meeting folk in person because it's a lot more genuine IMO.

Try meetup.com to meet people with shared interests.

Just have fun with it and don't give up.

Also care about your looks and dress well. Go shopping with a sighted person who doesn't work at the store you're shopping at and let them pick out things for you. This has been really helpful for me.

Time is the best healer

One way to meet fellow VIPs is doing group holidays with travel eyes, they organise group holidays for sighted and blind people and I loved the one I did last summer and have made some lifelong friends from it

damn i’m sorry about the breakup. give yourself time to really mourn the relationship if you are feeling low. and start to feel out crushes and connections that you have, or that others are vibing your way. you are super good looking in the photo you posted, and that shirt looks great on you!

also i don’t know if your ex was disabled too, but either way i’m sorry that they said ableist stuff to you about your CP. don’t listen to that shit. it might be a nice change to spend time in person or online with other disabled people or at least people who are committed on some level to not using that shitty value system.

She is blind as well. You know, the funny thing is, I don’t feel down about it at all, I just feel disconnected from the whole thing, honestly. We hadn’t been hanging out regularly for about three months prior to this. She would always make up some thing why she couldn’t hang out, she was busy, stuff to do, etc. etc. I told her that if she really cared, she would make time, because that’s just what you do. My folks warned me that this would happen, because they told me that they just had a feeling. Apparently, they were right. I’m not sure how they knew though, but they said that they just did, they’ve always supported me in everything I do, and everything that I want to do. They have never treated me differently, so thats really helpedthey’ve always treated me equal

it seems like you have good perspective on it and you're definitely better off seeking out other relationships!
