Feeling self-conscious of your visual impairment? This story might inspire you (self.Blind)

I am not sure if what I'm writing or sharing here is acceptable as it is a personal story, but maybe it will help your situation if you have visual impairments like myself.

At the age of seven I lost all of my eyesight in the left eye. I was always highly nearsighted, with a -16 prescription. Retinal detachments run in the family.

My left eye never looked the same again after three emergency surgeries. Throughout my years in school, I felt like I could never fit in.

Throughout all of the struggles and battles with adversity, I finally figured it all out. I was the only one doubting myself.

Once you realize that there are no limitations to your life, regardless of your situation, you can do more than you ever thought possible.

With only a thread of vision in my right eye, the story is still being written. Is yours?

Thanks for sharing! What caused your vision loss ?

Thank you! Sudden retinal detachment in the left eye, followed by five retinal tears in the right eye, 22 years later.

Oh wow! So your right eye has vision left?

Yes, with some clouds and waves mixed in :)

I think there is a certain threshold beyond which the disability starts defining who you are. I didn't even consider myself disabled back when I had sight even though it was just 10%, however I find blindness to be a lot more challenging since it shrinks your comfort zone so much that it becomes impossible to do anything without stepping out of it.

Interesting perspective! Yes, it can certainly have that impact.
