App which could help to people with poor eyesight (self.Blind)
submitted by gorbel_alex
Hi there! Me and my friends are working on the iOS app that voices any article from any source with the help of machine learning. The app is free and doesn't contain ads at all. Probably in the future we'll introduce a paid subscription, but we want to keep forever the free version for people with dyslexia and poor eyesight as this originally is the reason why we started it. So if this sounds interesting for you, please find more information here: $1. The link to download: $1. Would be really helpful to hear any thoughts, ideas or feedback from ya.

Thanks for that link, interesting article I hadn't read before.

I mean...maybe I'm missing something, but what's the point of this? We already have voiceover/NFB Newsline/a billion other things like this. I'm not trying to be mean, but I don't see how it's much different. Most news article are in text by default, I don't see how the machine learning is special.

Good point. There are a lot of similar things. But the problem is that almost all of them voice the text like a robot, and the speech sounds not narrative. So the difference of our app is a speech quality. We are using the most powerful AI-based technology for the voice over. Thanks for AI and machine learning the speech in our app sounds like human voice for 98%. Also we’re trying to make the user interface as simple and user-friendly as possible.

Yeah, a normal screen reader is also way faster and I have much more control. I care much more about speed, control, and overall quality then a 'not narrative' voice. Also, Alex is a pretty high quality voice imo. Plus another user commented that this is inaccessible for people actually using screen readers. Generally when blind people say "inaccessible," we don't mean that something isn't free...

lol

an app which is supposed to help people with poor eyesight is..inaccessible. Great job!

what did you mean by ‘inaccessible’? Th app is available on app store, its free and up-and-running.

It means that the app does not have labeled buttons.

Go to applevis.com/developers to find out more about this.

I tried the app and as others have said, the app isn’t accessible with voiceover, the screen reader that comes with apple products.

Buttons aren’t labeled, tabs aren’t labeled, we can’t read the tutorial and I have no idea where to find any articles.

Needs a lot of work for voiceover accessibility. When the Toya page opens the only thing that reads the page sliders and the skip button nothing else reads. Also the tabs are not labeled
