Microsoft designs an Xbox controller with Braille (engadget.com)

Fascinating design. With the six buttons on the back, someone can type in braille while still holding the controller. I can't imagine it would be easy to do that, though... with 6 fingers on those buttons, and the two thumbs on the front, you'd be supporting the most of weight of the controller on your pinkies.

How you gonna play Vidya if you're blind

There are lots of games for people who are blind or visually impaired. Most of these are audio based games. Others may work well with low or minimal vision. Some blind people play standard fighting games, using audio and doing well even at a competitive level. And more importantly, this is a patent for a tool which could then lead to even more innovation and new ways for BVI individuals to game.

That's actually pretty damn cool

Your getting down voted for this, but I’m totally blind and agree with you. I really don’t understand some blind people who claim to be in to video games. I’m not sure what value they could possibly get out of it. It’s a highly visual medium.

I mainly play older PSP games on an emulator, because then I can use OCR for menus, but the value I get is that most audiogames are shallow, both in story and gameplay. Most are side-scrollers, with sounds taken from other projects, and it all gets so boring after a while. Playing mainstream fighting games, to the best of my ability, lets me play an actually engaging game, with great mechanics, sound, and story. Games like Dissidia Final Fantasy have enough sound, and can be used with OCR, and I've even completed the main story arch, except inward chaos which requires a character to wear armor with enhanceing effects.
