I [27F] am losing my eyesight. What are your favorite resources for tips, tricks, news on new tech, or general low vision people in social media, especially for college students?(self.Blind)

Hi!
Tech: If you have an iPhone, applevis.com is a fantastic resource for accessible apps. Aira's a lifesaver if you can afford/hack it.
Happy to PM if you have more questions

Many colleges have a disabilities department to help provide accommodations. Check with them to see what help they can provide. Depending on where you are, they may also be able to provide computer equipment as well.

Don't take no for an answer if you live in a country that has strong disability discrimination legislation. Just because they haven't had a student do your particular degree before doesn't preclude them from helping you. Are they going to say to that every blind student who comes along?

It can be intimidating, but it doesn't hurt to ask. The worst they can say is no, and that just leads to the same spot you are in now.

Hi there, I run a YouTube channel and social accounts @JamesRath where I spread accessibility awareness and life as a legally blind person since birth. Much of my content revolves around tech, both mainstream, and assistive tech.
I will be posting a new video about experiencing college later this week. Hope it helps.

Hi, also check out an app called envision ai. It can read out documents / paperwork for you, as well as do lots of other things.

Seeing AI is the same as Envision AI, but Seeing AI is free.

yes, true for the most part. Though envision is also available for android, and there are some cool improvements in the beta's right now :-)

The main thing is to accept it, sure it's scary, absolutely horrifying, but the second you let it stop you, it'll get 10% worse. Everyone has they're own unique way of things and eventually you'll find yours, just keep going.
There is an app called 'Tap, Tap, See' which is basically describes photos that I find useful as well as 'Notability' which is good for note-taking or writing.

Seeing AI is more accurate and has more features than TapTapSee.

oh gosh. Where do I start ? There’s so many cool blind / visually impaired youtubers these days. It’s so much better than the old days. Casey with a C and The Blind Life are 2 great channels. I have a site but i won’t mention it since it’s poor form to toot your own horn.
I’m a bit of a braille zealot. While it’s a difficult learning process - it’s invaluable. The learning process in terms of getting the message from your finger tips to your brain takes a lot of practice but is well worth it. Get yourself some mobility training while you’re doing OK. better to buy an umbrella when it’s about to rain than during. You can do tooons of stuff as a visually impaired person. If you’ve got full access to your arms, legs, hands, feet, neck, back, ears and mind then you’ve got it made in the shade.

Please tell us about your own site.
*It would now be poor form not to do so once asked.*
