Want to play Dungeons and Dragons? (self.Blind)
submitted by Vicorin
I know there’s been posts like this before, but if anyone would like to join a D&D group, I’m looking to form one.

I’ll be the DM, I’m just trying to get an interested group together, and figured it might be cool to run a game for other blind players.

All experience levels welcome. Comment or send me a message if interested.

I would be interested if you still have space and haven't settled anything. I have a *decent* amount of experience with 5e. the only issue might be timezone... as I'm in IST(Ireland).

If you've already settled things or if the timezone might be an issue, then no worries.

Question:
I'm a GM, one of my players has recently became visually impaired. He really likes playing D&D, it is something that makes him happy in this rough adjustment period.

I've only GM'ed like 8-ish sessions in my whole life, so I'm still learning. But I wonder if anyone has tips or a resource for how to make a game more fun for him?

I know the obvious: don't draw maps, give more RP opportunities, no visual puzzles etc.
I want to make it enjoyable for him and I know he especially likes to solve puzzles in game, but I don't know how to make compelling puzzles that don't rely on sight.

My wife is interested but she doesn't have a reddit account. She's a blind Kindergarten teacher on the east coast of the US. She's also my co-host on our podcast DragonReel, the Fantasy Film Podcast. So she has a strong background in fantasy. She's also been one of the players in my various D&D games for close to 30 years now, and an excellent role-player. How were you thinking of putting the game together? Roll20? Skype?

I'm potentially interested. Tell us a little about your dm style? What elements of the game do you tend to emphasize? Any commonalities in the stories you like to tell?

I’d say I’m a pretty balanced Gm. I emphasize everything relatively equally. I prefer well developed characters with backstories I can tie into the campaign and players that like to role play and get in character. I’m just here to tell stories.

My stories are usually a bit darker, to an extent. I’m very narrative focused, but value player choice and freedom, so I like to have different options and paths and sandbox elements in my game with an overarching plot that subtly weaves throughout.

I’m not sure how else to describe it, but if you’re interested, shoot me a PM with your time zone and availability.

Oh, one other thing: how long are your sessions generally? I personally tend to find anything under 1 hour too short for meaningful developments and anything longer than 5 too long to keep momentum. YMMV and that of course also depends on how frequently you play.

Okay, that sounds awesome then. I'm a fairly rp focused player. Not to say I can't or won't enjoy combat, but if the primary focus of the game is like... Well actually you're x feet away from this person and you'd need to be 1 inch closer for that attack ... I probably won't stick around long. But it sounds like you're more story focused so that could work very well. I'd love to join if you still have space.
