Most people with vision impairment prefer "blind/low vision", just as people with hearing impairment prefer "deaf/hard of hearing". In order to understand what is happening in performing arts, blind people sometimes use audio description if it's available. For understanding artwork, it can be helpful for the art to be described; in some countries like Italy, tactile forms of artwork have been made, but the effectiveness of something like this obviously depends on the specific artwork.
