Hi there. Need honest oppinion of blind person on my project and startup. (self.Blind)
submitted by Lutherush
Hi there. I would need an honest oppinion of blind people. I am an startup owner, hardware hacker, kernel hacker and AI developer. I developed artificial intelligence for blind people. It is named Sarah and Sarah has her own wearable device, smart glasses. Total weight of device is 125 gram and battery lasts for 12 hours. The AI can navigate person from poind A to pont B over traffic watching for each step anx counting steps. It recognises object, traffic signs, vehicles, distance from objects, speed of vehicles, it can read, make phone calls, order uber or food for you. Interaction is over voice commands and object detection works on all weater conditions and no matter the speed traveled. It also learns from interactions and learns names of people you meet.

The device is at the moment on clinical tests and on certification for Europe, USA and Canada. Later this year, in December, it will be on market. That is if we get any funding from investors. Target price is 750$ per device. I am interested what is the honest oppinion of an blind person and if an blind person would use that device.

Thank you.

This sounds really cool, however I have many reservations.

Your claims sound lofty at best. From what I understand by reading your post, this device would act as a type of sighted guide that's always with you and aid in navigation and recognition of people. That's a really cool idea and would be incalculably helpful. Frankly this sounds too good to be true. Apps like taptapsee, Eye-D, Envision AI, Seeing AI, and Google Lookout aim to provide simple scene recognition and they still get things wrong frequently. You're claiming that you have a device that weighs less than my phone, lasts all day, and functions better than all of these apps with years of data and development and that simply doesn't line up with what's currently out there. On top of that you claim you're aiming for a pricetag below $1000, presumably USD. That's simply not realistic. Current head-mounted CCTV units cost into the thousands and are using past-gen hardware with battery life that's only a fraction of what you're claiming.

Understand that I'm not against this idea, rather your claims do not seem feasible given the current state artificial intelligence, processing power, battery technology, and your proposed price. You have no idea what an enormous help this would be if it was available and I support your pursuit of such a device.

But hey, if I'm proven wrong and this thing actually lives up to what you're saying I would be ecstatic.

I do not clame it, it made it and have prooven. Well i will show you in person. It would be best. I do understand that Microsoft and Google are multi billion companies with tousends of engineers and i am just a one nerd but i did something they didnt do. Even Audi and Tesla cant detect cars on speed above 120km/h and on raind and snow but i can and it was a matter of math.

> I do not clame it

Until it's proven, it's a claim. And a bad one. Current GPS technology, AI, etc does not do what you're claiming it does, and one guy whipping something together in his basement is not going to change that. Honestly this has scam written all over it.
Lutherush [OP] 1 points 4y ago
Well to inform you, it is proven. 10 expers where looking on it and confirmed it. Do you want to test it yourself?
quanin 1 points 4y ago
If it actually existed, sure. However, if it actually existed, you'd be able to prove it.
cartertemm 2 points 4y ago
Sorry for the onslaught of fuck you's here. I think we're all rather hesitant, due to this being tried quite a few times before and ultimately failing. Next time I'd suggest making a video/spec sheet/paper, something to provide a bit of background into why yours might actually work. Regardless, thanks for the attempt. I'd be more than happy to help if necessary, be it beta testing, dev or otherwise. Please, do prove us wrong.
Lutherush [OP] 1 points 4y ago
Neh, it is ok. I got used on it. What get on my nerve is saying " Google/Mictosoft/who ever cant do it why you think you can do it". There are ready few people from this subreddit who will test the beta device so please jon them. And as said the vide will be posted and not only from device but from person using it.

P.S.
All this fuck you's are actually sign we are doing something good. We could pitch it to Tesla and sell to Tesla if we where behind fast cash and develop something else from 20k we would get for it.
cartertemm 1 points 4y ago
You might find them OK and a sign of something good, yet others might consider it extremely unwelcoming and unnecessarily disapproving

Three years ago i build smart device for elderly care. It was messuring blood pressure, heart rate and motion. In case of emergency like heart attack, brain stroke or fall it would send notification containing precise gps location and body functions to ambulance and also make human voiced call. Ambulance could monitor body functions over web app when on the way and also use google maps integration for navigation to patient. I was testing it with local RedCross and during 8 months of testing device saved 5 lives that would be lost. When was time for pitching it i was called idiot, retard, fraud, scammer and i didnt get any funding. Whole project was put on shelf until i can self fund it. Few weeks after my ex employee forged documents, signitures, blocked company, stole money, tried to steal one of patents, made false claims and as result i went 3 months to prisson inocent. That is actually how my first year of merridge started. When it was proved that i was inocent i didnt get any apology from anyone and didnt get my money back. It was 275 000 euro. I had 3 euro in my pocket. I didnt give up and i focused on my side project. That is this one. At first it was just general AI but as started to nitice some things it can do i decided to make something that can be actually usefull and change something. I could pitch it to any car manufacturet take few thousend euros and call it a day but i didnt, i collected team, i bootstraped some money, i made prototypes and started to pitch it. I tested it with 5 people who all asked when they can buy it. At the moment we are doing clinical tests, have colaboration with school for blind kids and 2 associations of blind people in Croatia and Slovenia, today association of blind from UK asked how they can help. Now again we are bootstraping money and asking all around for 20 000 euro investment to budil 10 demo units and buy equipment we need so in 2 weeks we can have more tests, promo video, presentation and something to show. So all this fuck you and calling me retard and fraud really dosnt mean anything to me, i have bean trought worst. Why Google or Microsoft cluld not do it? Do not know do not care. Why Audi and Tesla could not implement object detection on all weather conditions and speeds? That i really do not know since algorythim for that is from 1987, it works and it is open sourced so anyone can use it. Why i did something that others didnt do? Becaouse i did first the math behind it and used code to apply math on something, i didnt do java style. So if more people will call me fraud, retard, idiot and say fuck you, i can only thank them for support, they are the fuel powering me. I proved myself 10 times wrong now i will prove the rest of world wrong and i really do not care what others say. I am not interested in apps and pizza divery drones, i want to change life. If one investor turns me down i will knock on doors of second investor until one dosnt see i will not give up .

I am totally blind and I think this device sounds perfect, especially being able to navigate with just voice commands and the pedestrian traffic application you built into it.
Lutherush [OP] 1 points 4y ago
Thank you. I got the idea 2 years ago when i saw a blind girl in McDonalds. I was watching for almost and hour how much she actually struggles and how hard it is for her. Then i was thinking. My great grandfather was blind. He was smoking but he would tear down filters and smoke filterless and he struggled to determinate how much liquid is in glass and if the plate is full or not. I wanted to build something that can help blind people use things that are for us normal and common and for you they are useless, to be able to walk over city without cane and dog, to eat, drink and shop without help of other people. Since january this year i started pitching it but every angel investor and vc turns me down since they are more into apps.

Really sceptical that it's wise to navigate without a cane. I could see how this could be helpful as a supplement to a cane, but not a substitute. Specifically how well would it do at detecting variations on the ground, like steps, holes, etc? How good would it be at detecting obstacles at a low height, such as bollards? Considering one would wear them on one's face, the angle of view for such things might not be very good.

Even if detection is good and accurate, it also needs to be conveyed to the user in a timely fashion, and in a comprehensible way that allows them to act on the information. How do you explain someone, fast enough, that there's a hole on the ground 10cm ahead of their right foot?

That said, that one would need a cane to navigate doesn't necessarily make this useless. But I'd try not to oversell, because a lot of blind people are justly sceptical of those kinds of incredible claims.

Also how's the situation with positioning accuracy? Are you using topographies and GPS? If so are you aware the resolution of such systems is not as good for walking as it is for car use, and multipath issues make it even worse near buildings, which is where pavements go?
Lutherush [OP] 1 points 4y ago
What if you test it?
bradley22 1 points 4y ago
I do agree with this comment but would still want to try it out
HDMILex 1 points 3y ago
I'm very, very interested in testing this out. Was also a beta tester for Aira before they launched.
Lutherush [OP] 1 points 3y ago
How wherr their agents ?
HDMILex 1 points 3y ago
Fantastic and very professional.

Used to also work for them and they are monitored. All calls recorded. Location data etc saved to their servers.
Nandflash 1 points 4y ago
Definitely sounds interesting, especially at the price you're aiming for.

Hopefully you find enough investors. I've always wanted something like the SeeingAI app but in the form of glasses, and this sounds like it'll be similar.
Lutherush [OP] 1 points 4y ago
SeeingApp is cool but Microsoft lied s little and it is iphone only.
Nandflash 1 points 4y ago
Yeah, it being iPhone only is kind of annoying. That's one of the things keeping me on iOS. It's super helpful.

I hope you'll keep us updated on the project.
Lutherush [OP] 1 points 4y ago
Yes i will keep you all updated. I am building an demo unit, actually demo units, so i will make video about the device, its functions etc etc and video with testers actually using it. I had luck and local school for blind said yes same second as i asked them for help.
WarriorPrincess31 1 points 4y ago
I would be incredibly skeptical of this device. If I'm not mistaken, the orcam tried adding a feature where the glasses could tell you about the traffic stop and when it was ok to cross. But ultimately, they had to shut down this feature because they did not want to be liable for putting someone in danger.
Again, I'd be incredibly skeptical to rely on a product that claims it can help me cross the street.
That sounds like a huge No-no, and also, your grammer makes you sound like a scam.
If you're going to advertize for something like this, please, learn how to write propperly, because as of now, everything you're saying has many red flags for me.
bradley22 1 points 4y ago
I’d love to check this out.

If you manage to make it to London with a prototype to a place called site village, I’d gladly check it out.

Just to make you aware, there are screen readers built into smartphones. The apple one is called voiceover and the android one is called talkback.

Pm me if I can help in any way.
Lutherush [OP] 1 points 4y ago
I will pm you
