Aren't some of those contractions not used anymore? Like the one for the word "to" wasn't taught when I learned braille. Seems like that might make things complicated for someone new to braille but I haven't heard how that's supposed to be approached

Great point! Not sure about everyone else but I teach all of my students the new code and then all of the contractions that aren't being used anymore. We get old textbooks all of the time with old Braille. Although, this picture looks relatively recently so they definitely should have used new code.

Yes it was a few days ago. I’m learning Braille currently because I will need it soon.
