Anyone been to Italy? (self.Blind)
submitted by 74bpa
We are taking my (blind) parents on a kind of once in a lifetime family vacation to Italy. Wondering if anyone has had any particularly special experiences there that they'd be willing to share.

I think a lot of the experience will be about the food, wine, and just being in a different environment with different sounds and smells, but I want to make sure they get the absolute most out of this trip and that it's as awesome as possible. Any thoughts/ideas welcome!

I am legally blind and have been to Italy. It was delicious! The people were very sweet. It helps to know a little Italian because not many people speak English. I don't know if your parents are completely blind but the streets are narrow and curvy and there were a lot of mopeds zipping by. So for walking around I would just caution that they listen carefully and not be surprised if they turn down a street going in one direction but end up facing another.

Great to hear, thank you! My parents are completely blind but we will be there guiding them so they won't have the stress of navigating themselves in such an unfamiliar place :)

I'm Vi, and I've been to Italy. it was probably the best holiday of my life. Everyone was so friendly, the streets always smell of great food and all the historic landmarks we went to (like Pompeii) had audio guides and description. It will definitely leave special memories as it has done for me, I didn't even want to leave.

Hi!! I went to Venice a couple of years ago and it was beautiful. We went on boat rides and the sound of the water, the birds and the feel of the sun was glorious. We also went to less touristy parts which were peaceful and had amazing food. I hope you also have an lovely time!
