Tablet camera OCR to voice software? (self.Blind)
submitted by superpj
I’m looking for something for my aunt that she can take a piece of mail or printed document and put it under a camera and it make it big and semi visible and also have the software read it to her. Her vision has been like trying to look through a backward telescope while on a drunk horse since the 80’s so she can’t just use a scanner and stuff. We looked at Readdesk PC but there’s no demo for it and TrySight company borders on preying on elderly trying to get them to buy devices that software doesn’t work right and poorly designed 3D printed accessories that fall off during the demos.

The internal magnifier on the iPad is pretty good if you can teach her to use it.

Do not buy orcam, if you come across it. It’s way to expensive.

Try Seeing AI like others have said, it’s completely free.

Orcam is actually quite good, but definitely try it before you buy it because it is very expensive and the technology mostly exists in free iPhone apps.

Many apps do this - Seeing AI by Microsoft is a good option. If your willing to put in the $100 investment for something top of the line, KNFB reader will work too. I personally think SeeingAI is better because it has other features life facial/product recognition too.

Try Seeing AI on iPhone or iPad. It's a good OCR app. Quick & easy to use.
EDIT: Thank you, kind stranger, for the gold.

Seeing AI is pretty good, but you can't always rely on it. Especially for things where confusion can be very detrimental (medications). When it is on a cylindrical, small bottle and someone has difficulty aiming or holding it steady, it's accuracy goes down. (I think it also depends on the print as well).
