I do my clinical rotations in the public school system as well as in a self-contained SPED private school. The public school has gone 100% electronic, which has made things easier for me in my limited experience at handling IEP/504 issues as a professional. The private school is in the process of going 100% paperless for everything save for the culinary arts program, so all staff will be getting an iPad for data tracking and file management.
I love the electronic way since I can just search for a patient or student file whenever I need it. If your school doesn’t go the electronic route, my best suggestion would to be an extremely organized file cabinet. At home, I use a locking safe with a clearly labeled file for everything. For example, I’m also an EMT student (I take my state and national licensing exam next month), so I have a file labeled “Continuing Medical Education and Certifications.” For my BCBA stuff, I have another file called “Behavior Analyst Licensure and Certifications.”
Hopefully that helps. If not, give me a better idea of your vision capabilities and I’ll try to help you come up with a system.
