How does voiceover work if you speak multiple languages? (self.Blind)
submitted by That_Dog_Nextdoor
For example phone settings, texting, even social media in your native language. But also just speaking english online. Accesing the wider internet.

I tried just using voice over in one language (I want to use it when my eyes are tired and hurt. Or am having migraines.) but it just doesn't work, because with the voice i can't understand the things in the other language anymore.

There is a Languages rotor option where you can load up multiple VoiceOver speech packs in a variety of languages, then set your phone to localize to a certain language. so Go to the VoiceOver options and download the languages you want to use in the Speech options, double-check that Languages is checked in Rotor options, then head to Settings > General > Language and Region and set your phone's native language. Once it is set there, just go to the Languages rotor option and swipe up or down to adjust the VO feedback to the matching language.

Thanks! I knew it had to be possible! And trying do decipher what it is without ya know. Seeing the text when hearing it in the other language is impossible.

To add to what was already said, VoiceOver will sometimes be able to also detect the language of what you're reading automatically. This will mainly work on websites, inside books and in some apps like Google translate, or if your language uses a different alphabet like Russian, Chinese or Arabic. But most of the time for things like Social media or messaging you'll just want to use the language rotor.

Yeah it's dutch. So some words even are the same. Not a different alphabet at all.

Right, so your best bet is just to set up the rotor and add the Dutch language there. I have to do this as well for Polish.
