My Mom Steps on the Cat (self.Blind)
submitted by FartInsideMe
Hey all,

I will need my mom to watch my cat for a while at her house, but we have concerns over her accidentally stepping on the cat.

The cat is very friendly and likes to stretch out in front of people inviting you to pet it, but my mom doesn't see him and will accidentally step on him. The cat is fully grown is not used to avoiding people's feet, and I know my mom would feel terrible if she accidentally hurt the cat.

Does anyone have an idea on something I could do so my mom will be aware if the cat is laying down right in front of her? I've thought of putting a bell on him, but that only makes noise when he walks and not when he's lounging around.

Thanks for reading!

Cats are natural assholes, but they learn to get the f out of the way when a known hazard is coming their way after a coupla trial & error moves (I think 9 tops?).

I think my cat has a brain disease because he is too friendly for his own good. He acts like a dog, and he even likes water.

But I know the cat will eventually learn to move out of the way, I just don't want his laid-back personality personality to change. A system where she could avoid him would be best

I basically kick my cat all the time, and I'm still her favorite person in the household. She will run out ahead of me and stand there pretty much waiting for it. If it's not a very old cat it will be fine if your mom bumps it a bit, they're a little tougher than we think they should be.

cats are tough mahfuckas, it'll be ok. I've got mine to sort of chirp when I come too close. I have learned to stop real quick when I hear that chirp because it means I'm just about on top of her.

I think the bell would still be a good idea; at least when the cat stops moving, there's info about the cat's general whereabouts in the room. Also the shuffle if she suspects the cat is close by.

There really isn't a system that I know of. When I moved in with my blind partner, I brought my cat. It took a bit but the cat learned to make noise if he didn't want to get kicked or stepped on. My partner also kinda shuffles his feet so there's less likelihood of kicking the cat or, if he does, it's a softer kick. However, my cat sometimes just doesn't seem to care and will do his usual lay around, fully stretched out on the floor, and just *watch* as my partner approaches and makes impact. He still loves my partner all the same.

That's a really great story, thanks! Maybe I'm just worrying too much. Glad your cat still is comfortable to lounge around

Dude I straight up sat on a cat one time, and not gently either. He was in my chair and I didn't notice. It was a nice padded office chair and I plopped right into it, except this time, it wasn't into the chair, it was onto the cat. I was horrified, I jumped up as quick as I can and he took off running. I thought for sure I'd killed him, that he'd have some sort of internal injury. Nope, he was fine.

I'm not saying that to try to be like nah its ok, no matter what you do to them, they'll be fine. However, if something does accidentally happen, the cat should be fine.

I even... and this one is even harder to say because I felt sick after, but I kicked my cat down the steps accidentally. She had this habit of running out in front of people on the stair case. I ran down three steps and on the fourth, bang, I sent her flying. She went out of control down the steps sounding like she was sideways, and the thunk as she hit the front door where you'd normally turn right... Oh god I felt sick, I thought I'd hurt her badly or even killed her, but again, she was fine. She even came back to me relatively quickly. I wanted to check her over to see if she was bleeding or anything, so I meowed until she came back. Yeah, not pleasant and I may have cried a little.

My point is that cats are tougher than you think.

yeah that's a tough story but he knows you didn't mean it. I've seen a cat fall out of a tree once and hit every branch on the way down lmao. You're right, the cat should be fine
