Using the On-screen keyboard on the touch screen of my convertible with JAWS (self.Blind)
submitted by mamiice97
Hello everyone. I got my new convertible today and love it so far. But there's one thing I can't figure out and i'd really like to use that feature, typing on a touch screen. I use JAWS 2019 and windows 10. My problem is that the touch typing mode just doesn't work for me. So I open the on screen keyboard with the four finger down-up swipe, then put my finger down close to where I think the letter I want is located. Then if it's the right letter, I just lift my finger. If it's the wrong letter, I just move my finger around (without lifting it) until i find the right letter, then just lift my finger (just like on an iPhone actually). But it doesn't type the letters, or it types a wrong letter even though I was sure that I lifted my finger on the right letter. Does anyone use this keyboard on their touch screen and knows how it works? It types the right letters with the split tap, and also in the other typing mode where you have to double tap on a letter in order to type it. I couldn't find anything in JAWS' help files or on the fs website, no one on the internet seems to have the same problem. I hope someone has an idea what I do wrong or what could be wrong in the settings etc. The touch screen reacts normally to all the other gestures, although some gestures that require more fingers have to be repeated sometimes cause they are not recognized.

When I was in college I actually Beta tested the window surfaces with their Built-in screen readers. It actually worked pretty comparable to what you get from the iPhone. So turn jaws off and try the stock screen reader? You might be surprised.

I've used the on screen keyboard with NVDA and it worked just as I'd expect, with Jaws, not sure, I don't use it.
