Get a cane. It's magical how the crowds part and parents jerk the kids out of the way.
Plus, if someone is being crappy, use that blind stick to tap their ankles "accidentally". The best part is they apologize to you! My wife does this often.
Side note: I know it's a cane. But at our house we call it the blind stick. People have gotten ruffled feathers over this before and I offer no apologies for our vernacular

Blind stick is fine if its what you choose to call it, but a lot of us have a bit of a chip on our shoulders since thats what a lot of rude sighted people tend to say.

I've noticed.

These days most people look at me, look away, and keep walking straight towards me.

Have your cane or service dog.

No but I'm going on a mobility course soon I don't know what it is
I think it will probably be cane training
KillerLag1 points4y ago
You generally don't start with a service dog. It would almost certainly start with cane training.

Yeah, use a cane. Its the way to go. You'll often get to skip lines too (like at TSA).
ratadeacero3 points4y ago
We've never got to skip lines.
vapidvision2 points4y ago
Really? I usually get offered, I don't abuse it except in airports.
ratadeacero3 points4y ago
The closest to skipping lines we get is people always try and wait and open doors for my wife. Then, I look like the jerk since I try and go through first. She has some limited vision and prefers to follow me through rather than going firsr.

Use a cane.

Have someone with you as your guide if you're unable to use a guide dog or cane

Get a cane or an ID cane. Problem solved.

Kids at amusement parks are rude af. I’m fully sighted. I stand at five feet, ten inches tall and I’m over 200 pounds. Unless I move out of the way, people would collide with me every twenty seconds.
If you want to have more protection on your next trip to the park, I suggest using a friend as a human guide. They can try to navigate you away from people acting stupid, but there’s no guarantee.

get a short identity cane if you feel like you can still see enough to get around on your own, but just don't want people to be mad if you bump into them. i've never had a mobility course or anything but i'm totally blind on the right and partially blind on the left and carrying a cane makes life easier and more kind. you'll notice though, a ton of people are oblivious to their surroundings and are always staring at their phones. soon we'll all be bumping into each other, blind or not! :D

Shout, "oh fuck" when you walk into them. A cane works too, but it's not as passive-aggressive.

You are looking for a Symbol Cane.
It indicates to the general public that you are blind/have low vision and they should take care to avoid bumping into you. Most people understand what it means!

Just start waving a gun around exclaiming, "I'M BLIND… GTFO THE WAY MOFOS".
Works for me 89% of the time, and I'm not even blind (Though not sure if this has the same reception to others as claiming to have a service dog when you actually don't).
