How to make concrete stairs easier to distinguish?(self.Blind)
submitted by rkarl7777
I have 5 concrete stairs in front of my condo which are difficult to distinguish, because they are all the same color. I can't put treads on them because I live in a snowy region and the condo snow shovelers would probably just shovel them away. Any thoughts on how to make it easier to tell where one stair ends and the next begins?

You could use a cane.

Mark the edges of the steps with a painted line that contests them

But would you be able to see the paint if it snows?

Use a cane - I don't use one most of the time, but for tricky stairs or paths in weird lighting, I pull mine out.
But as for making the steps themselves more accessible, if you're worried about treads along the edge of the step getting scraped off, what about painting them with non-skid paint in alternating, high-contrast colors?

The safest option is going to be to use a cane. It’s not going to fail you and will help you not break your neck falling down the stairs. Collapsible canes or light and easy to put away, when they’re not needed.

I kick forward to find the next one when going up. When going down, I take smaller steps forward til I find the edge.

Paint the edges with yellow or orange paint.

Thanks. Not sure if the Condo Committee will let me paint the stairs, but I'm going to try using orange chalk to see how that works.

The Condo Committee *should* be able to come up with a solution. Some hi-vis paint at the edge of the step would be the minimum they can do.

Chalk will come off the first time it rains hard enough.

Something I have noticed I do Is I hit the back of my ankle against stairs in a similar fashion to the way you would with a cane to figure out where a step is when going down.
