Proximity sensors (self.Blind)
submitted by theetaxmancometh
My dad was asking me if I can find some sensors that he could put on some walls in his house to get around. If there is a device that could be mounted on the wall that would indicate where he is. I guess something like beep faster the closer you get.

Any one know of something like that?

There are some devices, although they are normally meant to be worn (Sunu band or the Buzz clip). If he was to get more than one, he would need to find a method to customize the noise, otherwise they would make the same noise, which would not help with orientation.

Would something like a mechanical clock (like a ticking clock) help? He can hear it as it gets closer, and it would get louder as he gets closer. Some of my clients also use a radio at low volume as well to help locate specific things.

Another technique is carpeting on the floor. Using different types/textures of carpet to identify specific rooms.

I like the carpet idea. I am going to suggest that we can put down some carpet pathways. Then he will be able to find his way on the path of carpet. Mostly he has hardwood or ceramic tile. So I think I could find some stick down carpet tiles. Thanks
