Writing a screenplay about someone diagnosed with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). (self.Blind)
submitted by Sugarberg
Hi $1!

I am a writer, and I was commissioned to write a screenplay about a character who experiences progressive loss of vision that eventually results in total blindness. After consulting with a neurologist, I opted to use the condition known as Leber hereditary optic neuropathy. (You can read about the condition here: $1) I was wondering if anyone on this sub has (or knows someone who has) LHON. I should add that the story takes place in the months following the diagnosis, so I am specifically interested in the period of vision loss and the symptoms as they develop. I am sure that in the future I will have other questions about living with blindness that are less specific to this condition. Ultimately, I want a story that is accurate and honest in its representation of blindness. Thanks in advance!

My good friend just started losing his vision to LHON about a year ago. It’s been a trip. He’d give you great stories.
