A Last Ditch Effort at Finding a Talking Graphing Calculator (self.Blind)
submitted by TheBlindBookLover
Hi everyone. I posted about this a few weeks ago. Please forgive my reposting of my plea. I start my fall semester of college courses on the 12th. I am still waiting for DOR to order my talking graphing calculator. Does anyone have a talking graphing calculator that they are no longer using. I can’t afford the full cost of the device, but I can pay for shipping and a small amount for the device itself. I considered buying the device online, but a six hundred dollar calculator is out of my price range. College is already as expensive as it is, and I am really panicking right now. Thank you to anyone who responds. I am sorry for posting about this again.

I don't have a calculator, but I have a tactile graphing kit that I'd be happy to part with for free (using free matter for the blind or if you want to pay for shipping, we can do that too). DM me if you're interested.

I am a TVI and am just wondering what your tactual graphing kit looks like. Is it an APH product?
annibear 2 points 4y ago
Think so, I'd have to go double check but I think it's APH. I got it in high school and only used it once or twice. May be a bit dated--I got it about five years ago and I'm guessing it wasn't new.

This is supposed to be a free, fully accessible graphing calculator. I have no idea how useful this is because I've never used a graphing calculator, but maybe others can chime in. https://www.desmos.com/calculator

Desmos is amazing, I love desmos as much as I love all the numbers. Desmos is beautiful and saved my ass.

Have you looked at graphing calculator apps for iPad or Android. A few of my courses needed a business calculator. As I couldn't see it I was allowed to use the app.

Thanks for responding. I have looked into a few apps. They vary in accessibility. I found some that do work well, but they have some differences from the standard model that my classmates were required to purchase. I think that it is just a matter of getting used to it. I used a talking graphing calculator in high school, so I am not acclimated to utilizing the app versions.

Thank you so much!!! I will check out the link. I did not think that assistive technology was sold on a mainstream website like eBay.

I've seen assistive technology sold on eBay before, but I've never bought anything off eBay.
