Want to get my blind grandmother a camera so we can video chat when I move (self.Blind)
submitted by feetfirstdontfall
My nana is legally blind. To be honest, I’m not quite sure of the extent of it, but I know her vision is extremely limited.

She’s in her 80s but she LOVES technology. Her favorite thing to do is click around on her computer and watch Netflix, haha.

Her and I are incredibly close and I’ll be moving to another state soon and I’d like to get her some kind of video camera or something that allows us to video chat while I’m in my new state so she can feel like she’s with me, as I know she’d really enjoy that. As I’m sure you’ve all dealt with, most tech products are geared towards sighted younger folks so I’m having some trouble finding something that would work for her.

A lot of things like this can be quite complicated and wanted to know if any of you knew of something that would work for a limited sight senior?

Thank you very much!

If her computer has a webcam, that should be good. Alternatively, if you both have iPhones or iPads, you could facetime.

It doesn’t but I could get her one of those plug in ones. Thank you!

The Echo Show works pretty well and it's all voice controlled.

Oh I haven’t heard of this, it sounds perfect!

Gonna piggyback here. The Echo Show will be the cheapest. Just get one for you and one for her. If you want to go the Apple route, FaceTime works great on anything that runs Mac OS or iOS and has a camera.
