What do you see if you touch your eye? (self.Blind)
submitted by InterscholasticAsl
Hey Reddit,

I recall reading on here that shining an intense light can still cause pain in the eyes of someone who is blind. This led me to wonder something else: what does a blind person "see" when their eyes are touched/poked/pressed on?

For me, faint colors, sort of like the ones that appear when I look at the sun, show up. I'm wondering if anything similar occurs, since I'm not sure if this has to do with the sensation of sight.

Thank you so much!

Probably different for people who have usable vision versus those who don’t, but for me I see a lot of flashes of light stars and bars.

It's a behavior that some people get caught up in. It can cause their eyes to become sunken in if they do it year after year; so, I wouldn't really encourage it lol.

Nothing in my blind eye. It’s just really unpleasant but not exactly in a painful way since there aren’t any pain receptors in most of the eye. When I used to poke my seeing eye it was a lot of sparklers and flashes and stuff but that hit enough pressure points that it would also make me sick. I haven’t done it really since I was 7.

For me, it makes me blink a lot and the light I can see can kind of dance.
