What Information do You Want on a Menu? (self.Blind)
submitted by Eisah
Sorry for another post so soon! I just installed Braille2000v2 and I'm super excited to do everything.

One thing I'm a little stuck on though is what to do for menus. I realize that there's a lot of options that are correct, but I was curious if there were any templates that were obviously preferred over others.

I've heard that a lot of people don't bother putting prices on braille menus because prices get changed a lot and they don't update the menus, so it's easier to ask.

I've also heard some people just want a list of items without descriptions, because they don't have time to read through all the descriptions.

I also had a menu I was looking at the other day that was just a mess. Completely inconsistent with typos and capitals and placement. With something like that, would it be better just to clean it up to make it easier to read?

I was thinking of making a TOC for this one because it's rather massive (Sushi Bar, Entrees, Beverages, etc), but because of how sloppy it is I was left wondering about some of these things. Even on the normal menu some things have prices and some don't! Why? I don't know... It also had three separate menus for reasons I couldn't decipher because there were no labels or anything on them.

I was thinking a table of contents, categories, lists of items under the categories, and keeping descriptions for the items that had them. That is, doing my best to make it neat and readable. What would you guys want on a menu? Would you want the prices, too?

I’d like a table of contents and prices but 99 percent of the time, I ask someone to read the menu to me.
