ZoomText versus JAWS? (self.Blind)
submitted by Angrybunnyman
Hi all. I work on accessibility for healthcare software and am starting to do more testing with screen magnifiers. Right now, I have clients that use ZoomText 11 with the reader function and have been trying to understand how it works in comparison to JAWS. How do I tell if there’s a code bug pin my stuff or ZoomText is working as intended?

For example, I have a web form text field with a label and existing text entered in it.  Tabbing to that field selects the existing text and it is read by both ZoomText and JAWS. The label is not in ZoomText.  Both the selected text and the label are read with JAWS.

Other issues include drop down/search as you type selection.  ZoomText doesn’t read the selected suggestions as I arrow through them with up/down arrow. Again, JAWS does.

How do I know that this is expected behavior or problem code on my end?

ZoomText should only be used for testing of how magnification works with your website. JAWS is expected to be more verbose because it is assumed that people using the reader mode in ZoomText will also be looking at the screen, but JAWS users, who have no vision, will be exclusively relying on speech output. Hence, you should ideally test using both products either at the same time or separately.
