[discussion] Opinions on face ID on the newer Iphones, is it better or worse than touch ID?(self.Blind)
submitted by Arqeria
Hey all, So I am considering getting a new Iphone soon and I wanted to know your thoughts on this. I recently tryed face ID on an Iphone 10R and had a lot of issues with it, mainly it telling me to do a bunch of things with my face before saying face ID is not available at this time or something like that. I tryed it several times but could never get it to recognise my face. Thoughts? Worth the money? Better or worse than touch ID?

Face ID works extremely well for me, far more reliably and consistently than Touch ID for sure. It even works in the dark.

Nothing will ever compare to Touch ID. Face ID hardly detects my face half of the time because I keep forgetting to hold my phone a mile away from my face just to unlock it.
Sighted things are weird lol

::I have an iPHONE 10. I hate the face recognition. I often just type my code to avoid lifting my phone to my face..

I thought Face ID was terrible but it turns out that it’s much more reliable when you hold your phone farther from your face. The attention aware option also works with my strabismus and nystagmus. It works with or without glasses, with makeup or in the dark for me and is pretty quick.

You also have to directly look at your phone or it won't unlock.

Damn thing doesn’t recognize me without my glasses!!!!!
Also Touch ID works in the dark

You can add another face so that it will recognize you when you're not wearing them.
KE5TR4L2 points3y ago
Yeah but the times I have them off are times when the room is too dark for Face ID anyway

Face ID works for me in dark rooms. It has some kind of sensor that doesn't need lots of light to work.
KE5TR4L2 points3y ago
Really? Mine works in like dim to bright light but if it’s me in a dark room it won’t pick it up at all

you can have multiple faces to be recognized. one with glasses and one without. i think its possible.

For me it works in the dark.

My bf is visually impaired and doesn’t like Face ID. He doesn’t use the screen at all and relies entirely on VO. He finds it a nuisance to have to pull it out of his pocket and look at it whereas before he could just use his fingerprint and was ready to go by the time it was up to his ear to listen. He has stated over and over again he’d go back to Touch ID in an instant.

Yeah that’s pretty much where I am right now. I love just being able to touch my phone in my pocket when I’m wondering around somewhere and get things done, not something I could do with face ID. Good to know it’s at least usable by us though.

It's so nice to be able to use your phone from your pocket sometimes. Can't do that with Face ID unless the phone's already unlocked.

Hi there Face ID versus touch ID, to be specific this is a personal preference, I have an iPhone X I’m quite comfortable with face ID, I must admit I cannot use stock iOS ever, I love customising my iOS devices, I am currently jailbroken Stock is too boring to be specific, if jailbreaking never existed most probably I wouldn’t be using iOS, I have been jailbreaking since the iPhone 4s

To be specific it is a personal preference touch ID versus face ID I don’t have any issues, I’m using an iPhone X jailbroken 13.2.2 I must admit, I hate stock iOS although I do understand jailbreaking isn’t for everyone

Fully agreed about jailbreaking. I do myself and it’s well worth it.

Do you want to be a part of my WhatsApp jailbreak community? I would love to know your setup? Plus I would love to get to know you further

I own apple devices with face and touch unlock. I much prefer face for speed. Especially post workout or when wearing gloves. When you use both daily it's touch unlock that has the most friction points

I don't have an informed opinion as I've never tried FaceID, but I must confess that I'm finding it hard to let go TouchID. My current phone is an iPhone SE, and I'm planning on keeping it until either the rumored SE 2 comes out or Apple stops supporting this one, whichever happens first.

I have onh so i really dont see the point in holding my phone up far away from my face for 10 seconds when i can have it unlocked in 1 second and closer to my face
